Making contacts

To obtain the maximum enjoyment from watching your favorite TV show is not enough to have a player of the last generation, and expensive satellite dish TV. Of great importance is the way in which everything is connected. It’s about the connectors

Person handling the TV as a source of unconditional uniquely treats cruelly mistaken. If you are not an expert in consumer electronics or unable to grasp the essence of any technical novelties for several seconds to minutes, it’s bad. Look at the back, front or side panel of the TV can anyone throw a surprise. Cause shock. Spoil the mood, well, if not a lifetime.

Panels modern TVs are so many connectors of all shapes, colors and sizes. Connectors and one connector with fifteen holes. And also rectangular. Blame It on the technical progress.

Time-tested

The first is to say a few words about an input for receiving an analog signal. Some of them appeared simultaneously with the start of mass production of TV sets, and some – a little later.

For example, there is nothing simpler analog RF-input. You probably have seen it even in deep childhood. RF, 75 Ohm, “antenna input.” And it can now be found on almost any model if it is certainly not all-digital “plasma” for 5-7000 euros. Used for this type of connection to a TV antenna, VCR, sometimes – cable and satellite “boxes” and DVD. Unfortunately, the quality of the prima via a connector, although at the time it suited the whole generation of viewers, modern standards is not entirely consistent. If you have a better source than the total house-dish, worth seeing if there is still any appropriate input.

A / V, composite – one more familiar to all type of connection, a survivor of the decade. Usually yellow-white couple. Compared with RF – progressive technology, connecting theory that improves image quality. Information about the audio and video is not transmitted on a single channel as a whole, and separately for audio and, in a separate cable – information about the color, brightness, etc.

Next, a small step forward – Connect S-Video. This type is not available on all budget TVs. Passed separately information about color and contrast. S-Video – quite used to this day analog contact, very often, these connectors can be found on the panels DVD, game consoles, etc. Also, it is often used as an alternative exit manufacturers of computer video cards.

The last of the popular among manufacturers and some technically corrosive buyers types of connections is the component type. General “component” – the collective name for all types of connections that use multiple channels to transmit video (including VGA, S-Video, etc.). In a narrow sense – is analog (trehkabelnoe) or digital (single cable) connection, one channel is used to transmit information about the brightness and image synchronization, the other two – to transmit chrominance characteristics. Component video support almost all DVD players and other modern video equipment.

Stand alone VGA and SCART. The first occurs mainly on new TVs, as the main function of this input with 15 holes one – to serve as a contact for connecting a personal computer. Therefore, the option of VGA input on the TV is usually identical to the analog input of a computer monitor (D-sub 15-pin).

As for SCART, its appearance, we must ingenious French. Syndicat des Constructeurs d’Appareils, Radiorecepteurs et Televiseurs, so to speak. This monstrous size entrance, accommodating 21 track, today is distributed almost everywhere in Europe. Since the time of the adoption of this standard about any “multineedle” distributed signals out of the question, the creators left most of the cells “in reserve.” Today through SCART, depending on the particular specifications, may be transmitted as sound and video, both analog and digital signals.

Digital

One of the most common types of inputs for digital video – Coax (Coaxial digital input). Outwardly cable coaxial connection are somewhat similar to conventional RCA-type analog A / V inputs, but the cable itself supports many, many more bands.

And, recent achievements in the field of high technology, a few years ago did not exist at all – it DVI and HDMI. More details can be found with them, reading “Very useful HDMI”.

In short – these outputs are designed to transmit this digital HDTV-quality video without any compression. HDMI DVI differs primarily from the fact that, in addition to digital video can transmit multi-channel digital audio. And, although both types of interfaces currently enough, most of them being excellent and are mutually used together using simple adapters. In addition, both interfaces are ideal for connecting your computer to the PC. To date, HDMI – the most perfect union, working in the TV business. DVI and HDMI are also notorious protocol support HDCP – protecting licensed content from unauthorized overwriting.

Besides video / interfaces of mixed worth mentioning outputs for sound systems, audio equipment connection – if digital TV has built-in support for digital music the same, you probably see something like this: (see photo) for five channels speakers, one subwoofer, and six one, seven and one, and the like.

These are the basic input / output / links / interfaces and not very modern TVs. However, recent trends appear so often, it seems that the new standards proliferate spontaneously. Periodically check the service panel of your TV. Perhaps there itself appeared something new.
